Is Tre Valli Varesine at risk? Majorly adverse weather expected

Riders such as Tadej Pogacar, Primoz Roglic, Tom Pidcock, Remco Evenepoel and Enric Mas are all preparing for Tre Valli Varesine 2024, set to take place on Tuesday. Mother Nature might yet have other plans in store though.

According to a report by Wielerflits, the key preparation race for next weekend Il Lombardia is at serious risk of being flooded out of the UCI calendar. "The authorities have now issued a red alert for the Italian region of Lombardy, among others," Wielerflits reports. "According to the latest weather reports, 150 to 200 millimetres will fall tomorrow – in a period of twelve hours."

The race is supposed to consist of a total of 200 kilometres with numerous climbs to Montello (2 km at 5.2% and Ronchi-Casbeno (2.5 km at 5). There will be 8 laps of the circuit with the last climb to Ronchi one kilometre from the finish. The climb to Barasso is incorporated on this occasion, with 11% sections that could do a lot of damage. Time will tell if we get the expected spectacle.
