Thibau Nys, born November 12, 2002 in Bonheiden, Belgium, is a promising Belgian cyclocross and road cyclist. He is the son of legendary cyclo-cross rider Sven Nys. Thibau rides for the Baloise - Glowi Lions team and has already achieved several successes, including winning the 2021 European Championships in cyclocross in the under-23 ranks and the elite race in November 2024.
Thibau Nys, son of cyclocross legend Sven Nys, began his cycling career with impressive achievements. In 2020, he won the Belgian Cyclocross Championships in juniors and recorded multiple victories in the World Cup. In 2021, he continued his rise with the European title in the U23s, confirming his status as a top promising rider.
In 2023 he already showed much promise on the road, taking his first pro win at the Tour of Norway, and then again at the GP des Kantons Aargau. But that winter in cyclocross he would take a big lap as well, winning very early on the big opening cross of the season in Beringen and right after his first World Cup in Waterloo - with the Koppenbergcross also added to his palmarès on the first day of November. The 2023-2024 season started off brilliantly but he still faced some difficulties with consistency. Whilst this did improve when comparing to previous years, he did not manage to win again, but did feature among the best a few more times.
But in 2024 his road season campaign was nothing short of impressive. Nys won a stage in every single stage-race he started. His season only began in April with the Tour de Romandie where he won his first World Tour race on stage 2. Weeks later he won the Tour de Hongrie after conquering two stage wins. Right after came a win at the Tour of Norway, and in June he won at the Tour de Suisse. But his season would not end there, and he snatched no less than three more World Tour stage wins at the Tour de Pologne later in the year, showcasing his incredible talent as a pure puncheur and classics specialist.
In the 2024-2025 cyclocross season Nys proved his worth by conquering the European Championships elite race in Pontevedra, Spain, and quickly took his first win in his new jersey in Lokeren the week after. Nys only won two months later then at the Belgian national championships after a streak of bad results and a return to form during the Christmas block. Nys beat Eli Iserbyt and Lars van der Haar to win the explosive Benidorm World Cup race and then finished third to Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert at the Liévin World Championships.
In 2025 on the road the Belgian opened up his season straight with a victory on the GP Miguel Indurain, but wasn't able to replicate his success from the previous season. He raced to eighth at Flèche Wallonne and fifth at Liège-Bastogne-Liège nevertheless which proved his effectiveness in the Ardennes. Nys rode his first Tour de France but never seemed to reach the expected form and have the expected results.
In 2025-2026, back in cyclocross, Nys opened up his season with a victory on the Koppenbergcross.
