INEOS Grenadiers prodigy puts cycling career on indefinite hold as he battles depression

The winner of the U23 Giro in 2022, Leo Hayter (brother of Ethan Hayter), has sadly announced that he is putting his professional career on hold due to an ongoing battle with depression.

As a result of his decision, Hayter will also be giving up the final year of his current contract with the INEOS Grenadiers. The 23-year-old British cyclist explained the sad circumstances leading to this decision in a post on his official social media pages.

"Hello everyone. A lot of you have noticed that I have been absent again this year," Hayter begins his announcement. "Without going into too much detail, I have been struggling for some years now. Last May I was diagnosed with depression and although those symptoms at first improved, I have found myself in that same place again."

"I broke down this year and have not been training/racing for some time now. It's unlikely I will return to professional cycling this year. For this same reason it's also not realistic to continue with Team INEOS," the talented youngster concludes his message.
