"I'm actually looking forward to the Tour de France now!" - Geraint Thomas immediately switches focus after history making Giro d'Italia podium

With the 2024 Giro d'Italia now completed, Geraint Thomas' second straight podium finish has now been confirmed. Having successfully navigated the first of two Grand Tours the INEOS Grenadiers leader will be taking on this year however, there won't be much time to relax.

"I've really enjoyed it and it's been a good group of guys," reflected the recently turned 38-year-old in his post-stage 21 interview with Eurosport on the cobbles of Rome. "It's actually gone really fast. But it seems like a lifetime ago that we started in Torino. It's been great."

Hilariously early on in stage 21, Thomas used his status as a patron of the peloton to urge UAE Team Emirates to slow things down as the team of the Maglia Rosa began to up the pace during the traditionally processional early portion of the final stage of a Grand Tour.

Having enjoyed a beer on Saturday on his 38th birthday, Thomas will again celebrate a successful Giro d'Italia tonight but in the coming day, attention will quickly turn towards the upcoming Tour de France, where the Welshman will take on the second Grand Tour of his campaign. "I'm actually looking forward to the Tour de France now!" Thomas previews. "It's a big challenge - Freshen up, enjoy tonight, stay on it, go to altitude camp and go to the Tour and help the boys. We've got a great young team there. I'm looking forward to it."
