Jasper Stuyven was one of the main victims of the dramatic fall in Dwars door Vlaanderen. The
Lidl-Trek rider broke his collarbone and therefore had to sit out the
Tour of Flanders and won't be seen at Paris-Roubaix next Sunday either. Yet the Beglian is still optimistic that he can be back in time for
Giro d'Italia, he tells Sporza.
"I think the Giro is still feasible. Hopefully I will get back to the same condition, although that remains to be seen," Stuyven said during the live broadcast of the Tour of Flanders. "It is a great goal if we succeed, but the year is not over yet."
Stuyven must therefore watched the Tour of Flanders in the TV. "Of course I would have preferred to race. It's a shame, especially in this condition. When I look at the results tonight, it may be extra painful, but I'm mainly looking forward to a good recovery. Hopefully that goes smoothly. I need to rest too and I didn't have a good night. The advantage is that you can watch something on TV today."
It will be a hard week for Stuyven as he'll miss his favourite races and on top of that he can't sit on his bike either. "I am not allowed to cycle on the rollers for the first ten days. That's how I feel too. I will only see in about ten days whether my muscles have recovered and then start again step by step on the rollers and on the road."
