Fabio Jakobsen was the chosen one to finish off the work of his new Team dsm-firmenich PostNL teammates in today's stage 1 of Tour of Oman. And while we saw the Dutch team's jerseys up front in the final kilometers a lot, the final result - tenth place - cannot be seen very positively.
"I'm really proud of how my new teammates rode," Jakobsen told WielerFlits after the stage. "The result was of course not what we did it for. But everyone was there in the final and all riders were able to do their work. And then I have to finish it. I did my best, but I arrived here with a lot of wind and I could already feel my legs a bit."
"We are working together for the first time. We create a tactic and we execute it. I think we succeeded quite well today, but you also have to have the legs. We're not even in the top 10 today. I already felt it a bit after yesterday's crash. Anyway, it's only the first of the year. We are certainly not disappointed, but we have to do better than this."
"What is said in the analysis with the teammates afterwards? That's our secret. What could be improved, of course. I have to be good enough myself and the legs weren't good enough today. I did my best, everyone on the team by the way. I'm really proud of how they rode. But there will still be opportunities in the UAE Tour."
