In a chaotic finish to stage 3 of Tirreno-Adriatico 2024, Bahrain - Victorious' Phil Bauhaus took the victory ahead of his former teammate, Jonathan Milan.
“To be honest when I checked the profile I thought it was pretty much on the limit for me," reflected Bauhaus in his post-stage interview with the finale being a punchy one that saw both sprinters and climbers try their luck at taking a stage win. "I was suffering on the last climb but the team believed in me the whole day, yesterday evening they said it was a good chance for me."
Perhaps due to those not typically in bunch sprints trying their luck, there was a big crash in the final few hundred metres that ended the hopes of victory for Jasper Philipsen.
"In the last kilometre I was in the perfect position and luckily I had the legs to do a good sprint. I’m super happy to have my first win this year," Bauhaus concludes. "I didn’t know there was a crash, I was really focused. I knew I was in a perfect position, I was happy I could keep my power to the line."
