Phil Bauhaus has taken victory in a hectic final sprint on stage 3 of Tirreno-Adriatico 2024 in front of Jonathan Milan as a late crash saw Jasper Philipsen denied a sprint chance.
With just a couple of riders getting into the break, one didn't fancy it, dropping back after the intermediate sprint, leaving just Samuele Zoccarato out in front of the peloton on his lonesome.
With just over 20km to go, Zoccarato was caught and a complete peloton headed into the tricky, punchy finale with everything still to play for.
Although EF Education-EasyPost came to the front to push the pace on the penultimate climb, many of the quick men seemed to have survived in the bunch.
A lot of different kinds of riders will have been hopeful in this finish including sprinters and GC men, making for a big battle for for the front of the peloton.
Lots of riders were getting spat out of the back as the race entered the final kilometre, with Israel - Premier Tech on the front.
After a crash in the finale, Phil Bauhaus opened the sprint and despite a massive effort from Jonathan Milan, victory went to the Bahrain - Victorious sprinter.
