On his Liege-Bastogne-Liege debut, Egan Bernal was bright, attacking and impressive, before eventually coming home in 21st position.
Post-race, despite the continued improvement in his road to recovery, Bernal was left feeling a tinge of 'what could have been'. "I think the crash changed the race a little bit," he reflects on an incident that left INEOS Grenadiers leader, Tom Pidcock caught out behind. "Tom would have had to wait and change the bike, we tried to do our best, but it will have to be next year."
Regarding his sensations, he confirmed that he felt very good and that's why he attacked on La Redoute and other hills, but despite his good legs he couldn't finish leaving anyone behind. In any case he will try again in the future:
"Looking forward to coming back, at La Redoute I saw myself in a small group, I got excited, I had very good legs today, I tried several times, I had legs but not enough to make a difference," Bernal concludes. "Now it's time for the Tour de Romandie".
