Although she did have to settle for second place, Vos is nevertheless relatively happy with her efforts. "After the final climb, I was relieved to reconnect with the peloton I think I achieved the best possible result today," she concludes. "I really want to bring the green jersey to the finish of the Tour de France Femmes, but first, I need to recover from this gruelling effort."
"We aimed to close the gap in the points classification with Marianne today, but we didn’t expect to be in green already," adds Team Visma | Lease a Bike sports director Jan Boven. "The situation on the road played out well for us, thanks in part to the hard work of the team.
Fem van Empel sacrificed herself for Marianne, allowing her to collect crucial points at the intermediate sprint and the finish."
"Riejanne Markus had a tougher day. It quickly became clear what we had feared. Riejanne currently isn’t strong enough to compete with the overall classification contenders. She eased off today to conserve energy for the coming days. We’ll see what’s possible for her then," Boven concludes. "Nonetheless, we look back on a successful day, considering the performances of Marianne, Fem, and the rest of the team."
