"It's the most beautiful day of my life" - Christian Scaroni on shocking Giro d'Italia victory

Christian Scaroni has scored a great victory in the Giro d'Italia, riding hand in hand with Astana colleague Lorenzo Fortunato at the finish line. After a very tough mountain stage, the XDS Astana Team duo managed to get rid of Movistar Team's Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda to finish together and further strengthen the Kazakh team in the WorldTour.

From the day's breakaway, the two looked the strongest in the final two climbs of the day to Santa Barbara and Passo di San Valentino. Not only did they have the legs, but also the tactics to succeed, and successfully hold off the raging GC fight that took place behind.

After the stage, Scaroni, who is having an extraordinary 2025, said he was having the happiest day of his career on a bike: "It's the most important and the most beautiful day of my career, I believed in it and it was not an easy Giro d'Italia but in the last stages I saw myself growing, I must thank the whole team, especially Fortunato. We talked about the stage victory and about him consolidating the maglia (the KOM classification, ed.). Yes, it's the most beautiful day of my life".

The 27-year old had an extraordinary start to the season, and at a certain point was even directly above Tadej Pogacar in the amount of UCI points scored throughout the year. A crash at Strade Bianche derailed his spring and form, but he has now returned to the top level.

On the fact that no Italian had yet won the Giro, he also said that it was an extra pressure for all of them and that, obviously, he was also more than satisfied to have achieved it: "This is important, there was pressure in quotes about this, I was hearing about this, about something that hadn't happened for a long time that we had reached stage 16 without an Italian winning, so I'm happy for Italy and to have given this victory to the tifosi."
