"He remains calm now in the final" - Intermarché-Wanty head coach on growth of Biniam Girmay over the last few weeks

Biniam Girmay won his seconds stage at the Tour de France on Saturday. For Intermarché - Wanty - a team that was having a sub-par season so far it's a welcome boost of morale. The Belgian team is thus the only team that has already won two stages in this Tour de France.

Satisfied head coach Aike Visbeek spoke to WielerFlits afterwards. "We worked very hard for this. Biniam had to come back from far away a few times. I think we all deserve this. I am incredibly proud. Of the trust we have kept in him, of the calm we have been able to keep. That is fantastic for everyone."

A huge burden has been lifted from Visbeek's shoulders. "You are involved in the process from the beginning to the end. You bear all the responsibility, you manage the people, you motivate them. You are very happy then. I am very aware that we do this as a team. We put a lot of time and energy into it. I think it is especially great that this is rewarded."

Visbeek sees that Girmay has grown even more after his first victory, last Monday in Turin. "He remains calm now in the final, he is very cool-headed. Last year he could sometimes get nervous or lose concentration in the final. Last year on such an arrival in Limoges he simply had not eaten enough. That is not strange when you are 23 years old, in your first Tour. But we lost a hundred percent chance there. We learned from that."
