A total of 40 riders that started the 2023
Giro d'Italia have now abandoned the race. The latest of these riders is
Team DSM's
Harm Vanhoucke.
With the weather playing havoc with the health of the riders, illness has been the reason for a vast majority of withdrawals at the race. Vanhoucke was similarly affected by just such an illness with stomach issues the reported reason for the 25-year-old Belgian to step off his bike.
"Unfortunately, Harm Vanhoucke has abandoned the Giro d'Italia due to ongoing fatigue and gastric complaints," an announcement by the official Twitter account of Team DSM has revealed. "We wish him the best as he heads home to rest!"
