Geraint Thomas foresees spectacular battle in stage 20: "It will be super close today"

All the fans hoped for a massive showdown in stage 19 which finished on top of Tre Cime but deep down, we all knew it was not meant to be with riders bearing in mind tomorrow's uphill ITT with the finish on Monte Lussari.

Still, Geraint Thomas and Primoz Roglic fought a fierce battle in the last hundreds of meters, with Thomas eventually losing three seconds on the line.

Thomas took iniciative with 400 meters to go and it seemed like Roglic won't find an answer, but in the last 100 meters, Welshman's legs stopped and Roglic managed to distance him by few super important seconds. "It's okay. When I accelerated at 400 meters, after 100 meters I noticed that 400 is a long way at altitude," Thomas said in a flash post-race interview.

"I then tried to keep my pace, but Primoz overtook me in the last hundred metres," Thomas continues. "I lost a few seconds because of that, but it's nice that I'm taking time on João. It will be super close today."

The decisive time trial awaits on Saturday, which finishes on the very steep Monte-Lussari. "It will be very exciting to see and terrible to do," Thomas probably already feels the pain in his legs. Thomas leads the overall ranking by 26 seconds over Roglic. Almeida follows at 59 seconds.
