Alberto Contador spoke on Radio Marca about the signing of
Nairo Quintana by the
Movistar Team. The Spaniard described it as 'great news' and positive for both parties.
"I think it's great news. Nairo had what he had, but he was ready to sign for a team. For Movistar I think it's good at all levels. On a team level, because he has a lot of quality, and also on a strategic level," explained Contador, referring to the fact that after his positive for tramadol in the 2022 Tour de France he had already served his sanction and was free to sign for any team.
The Spaniard, who ruled him out for his project in the renewed Team Polti Kometa, also believes that the telephone team may have interests that go beyond the sporting in the signing of the Colombian cyclist, suggesting that Movistar has a great commercial interest in Colombia and South America:
"For the sponsor it is also positive. Nairo moves a lot in Latin America where the Movistar company has interests."
In other words, Movistar needs Nairo because they've got nothing.
