Lars Boom had a great career as cyclist, winning a Tour de France stage in 2014 among others. And just like many other ex-pros, he went for an active retirement, taking on the sports director role.
The Dutchman made a debut women's team Liv Racing in 2021 before joining SD Worx - Protime for the next three years. There he witnessed the rise of Demi Vollering and Lotte Kopecky to the absolute top of the women's peloton.
However this cooperation came to an end as Boom is going to switch into the FDJ - SUEZ team car with immediate effect, leaving the Dutch team behind. Boom will bring all his tactical experience and strengthen the team's "classics" pole. He will work closely with Nicolas Maire, current sporting director, and the co-performance directors, Lieselot Decroix and Flavien Soenen.
"I am delighted to join FDJ-SUEZ, a team that has a bright future ahead of it. Stephen Delcourt’s vision and plan for his team is fascinating and I really wanted to be a part of it. What’s coming up is exciting and I look forward to contributing to the team’s development," Boom expressed in a press release.
Keep in mind Boom's signing might not be the only transfer from the Netherlands to France for 2025, as it is widely expected that Demi Vollering could follow in the footsteps of her sports director. One thing that is certain is she won't continue at her current team.
