“First I'm going on holiday" - Davide Formolo on how he plans to celebrate season-ending success at the Veneto Classic

For UAE Team Emirates and Davide Formolo, the European road season could hardly have ended on a better note. The Italian led home teammate Marc Hirschi in a one-two finish at the Veneto Classic.

Whilst the rest of the UAE Team Emirates team will link up in Dubai at a post-season training camp, Formolo will instead enjoy a bit of celebration. “First I'm going on holiday,” he laughs in a post-race interview with WielerFlits.

Heading into the finale, Formolo and Hirschi were alongside Filippo Zana. Using their numbers advantage to their own gain, the UAE Team Emirates pair repeatedly attacked and counter-attacked Zana before Formolo finally snapped the elastic and manged to break free, taking a solo win.

“I went all in on the last climb, I gave it everything I had,” Formolo reflects. “I had some problems on that gravel climb because I lost grip and had to put my foot on the ground. I lost at least ten seconds there, but I felt great and felt that I could still come back. Marc said I could attack, then he could follow the others. It's great to end this race like this.”
