As the 2023
Tour of Turkey came to a close,
BORA - hansgrohe's
Ben Zwiehoff was forced to settle for second in the general classification, having been unable to overturn the deficit to eventual winner
Alexey Lutsenko.
"I am very happy with my second place," the 29-year-old German told his team's official website post-race. "We knew that it would be very difficult to get the jersey from Lutsenko. But we tried everything and attacked again and again every day."
Despite not having been able to take over the lead from Lutsenko, Zwiehoff's second overall capped off a successful week for the team. "Overall, it was a super race for us," he concludes. "For good reason, we won the team classification and showed that we are a super strong squad."
"All in all, it was a positive end to the season here in Turkey. The stages were challenging, but the guys rode very well," added sports director Bernie Eisel. "We also attacked again today on the final stage and tried everything. With the stage win and three men in the top 10, we left our mark on this race."
