Ethiopian national champion sends out desperate X plea after Q36.5 announce they won't renew his contract

The 2024 season is almost at an end, meaning for many riders, attention has already turned to the next campaign. For some however, 2025 brings uncertainty, such as the situation for Ethiopian national champion, Negasi Haylu Abreha.

Explaining his desperate situation, the 24-year-old took to his official social media pages to launch a plea for a 2025 contract. "Help needed!" He begins. "I am currently the national champion of Ethiopia and also a pro cyclist for Q36.5 pro team… at least until the end of the year. Unfortunately in September, I was informed that my contract will be not renewed for the next year in this team."

Given the relatively late notice of the decision not to renew his contract though, the Ethiopian is now facing an uphill battle as most teams have already completed their respective rosters. "That unfortunately left me in a very hard situation as I have no agent to find me a new team and it is already October when many teams already closed their roster. I don’t know much to do, so that’s why I am trying the last option and posting it all here on X/Twitter," he explains. "I really wish I will be able to continue my cycling journey not only for me, but for all of these people in Ethiopia, you can see on the picture after winning the national championships at home."

As he notes as well, he has proven pedigree to call upon. "Yesterday for example I finished 4th in the African Continental Championships (won by Henok Mulurbhan ed.). The result I am really proud of although I think could’ve done better," he concludes. "If you will have anything that can help me, please contact me on my email Nesagihaylu011@gmail.com or also send me a message to my Instagram just in case the email won’t work. My messages will be open."
