There is a good chance that we will see Elisa Longo Borghini in action this season. The Lidl-Trek Italian champion decided to take a break due to an infection in her thigh, but is now back on the bike.
Longo Borghini suffered an infection in her thigh after her retirement from the Tour de France Femmes, forcing her to start a course of antibiotics. Participation in the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow was therefore not an option.
The 31-year-old rider suffered from a deep skin infection in the upper part of her left thigh, which caused pain and fever. Lidl-Trek then slammed on the brakes: the American team did not want to take any risks with her health.
We are now three weeks further and the world looks completely different for Longo Borghini, who is now training again. It is still unclear when she can pin a back number again. Lidl-Trek will closely monitor the situation and put together a remaining competition program.
