EF Education-EasyPost's Hugh Carthy abandons Giro d'Italia

EF Education-EasyPost have had a positive performance at the Giro d'Italia, taking stage wins with Ben Healy and Magnus Cort Nielsen, however their GC hope Hugh Carthy is heading home after suffering from stomach issues.

The Briton will not start stage 19, with the finale in Rome almost in sight. After finishing on the podium of the Tour of the Alps and having a consistent spring Carthy entered the Giro with high hopes, but they weren't materializing into a strong result.

Poor performances in the time-trials and conservative racing in the mountains saw Carthy never able to break into the Top10, despite having been the fastest rider up the climb to Crans-Montana on stage 13. He hoped to make the difference on the uphill but it was not enough to be in the battle for the top spots, yesterday he struggled on the final kilometers and fell from 11th to 14th in the overall classification.
