Denmark selection for Olympic Games revealed with Mads Pedersen biggest medal hopeful

A massive summer of cycling awaits in the coming months. Alongside the usual targets for the peloton to work for such as the Tour de France and the World Championships, there is also Olympic Gold to aim for at the Paris Games.

One of those that will be going for gold in the men's road race will be Mads Pedersen. The 28-year-old Dane has already impressed this year with the former world champion adding a total of 7 wins to his palmares to date. With the Criterium du Dauphine and the Tour de France on his calendar between now and the Olympics that number could yet rise even higher by the time Pedersen takes to the start line in Paris.

Pedersen also now knows exactly who the Danes will send to support him on his quest to bring Olympic gold back to the country. In the men's road race, the Danish lineup will be Mads Pedersen, Mathias Skjelmose, Mikkel Bjerg and Michael Morkov.

Bjerg and Skjelmose will also get another chance at an Olympic gold medal as the UAE Team Emirates and Lidl-Trek riders are the men selected by Denmark to represent the nation in the individual time-trial. Given the small teams and the subsequent difficulties to control things, the Olympic Games always prove to be an open and exciting race. Whether or not Denmark will be able use to that to their advantage or become victims of the unpredictability remains to be seen though.
