Whilst on paper, Søren Kragh Andersen will ride the
Tour of Flanders as a key lieutenant of
Mathieu van der Poel, the Dane refuses to rule out his own possibility of victory.
"So far, we only did two races together. I have to say that I also really enjoyed it. I was quite excited about it to see what will happen," the 28-year-old reveals in a press conference. "I don't know him too well yet, but I have the feeling that we understand each other's way of racing."
Van der Poel is of course the undisputed leader of
Alpecin-Deceuninck, but
Soren Kragh Andersen will not only be the team's plan b, he believes if the opportunity arises he can be a dark horse for the overall victory.
"I haven't won a big cobbled Classic yet, but this year it's promising so far. I'm just behind a few guys who are on a really high level. But so far, I'm among the best of the rest," he says. "Maybe it can turn to my advantage. We'll have to see in the coming weeks. I've been thinking about the different scenarios."
