Quietly going about his business, Simon Yates is up to 4th in the general classification at the 2025 Giro d'Italia now, following a solid effort in the stage 10 individual time trial saw the Brit limit his losses well against those GC contenders more renowned against the clock.
“This was definitely a good day," reflected the former Vuelta a Espana winner in a post-stage press release on the Team Visma | Lease a Bike website, having finished the day with the 23rd fastest time. "After switching to this team, it took a bit of time to get used to the new time trial setup, which I’m actually very happy with. That period of adjustment is paying off now. I think I can still improve, but considering the conditions, we can only say it was a good day."
As mentioned, with the high mountains returning to the Giro d'Italia on stage 11, Yates is right in the mix for the Maglia Rosa, sitting 4th on GC at just 1:03 down on the race leader Isaac del Toro. "It’s great to be up to fourth now. I want to stay focused and hopefully play a role in the mountains during the final week," concludes the 32-year-old. "There’s still a lot to come in this Giro, but so far, everything is going according to plan.”
