The traditionally very narrow and technical run up to the line at Danilith Nokere Koerse could be adapted as the organisers look to bring order to the chaos and make the race safer.
Race chairman Robrecht Bothuyne told Het Nieuwsblad about his plans to improve safety. "We will do this by making adjustments to the last one and a half kilometres, among other things.” Explaining, “We drive a little further on the Anzegemsesteenweg and then enter the Nokeredorpstraat via a sharp bend. As a result, the 'funnel of the Tsjoenstraat' is avoided and the speed at which the sprint is started will be less high and therefore safer."
Three years ago there was a major crash that brought down a number of riders including Mathieu van der Poel and whilst this year's winner Tim Merlier emerged victorious and crash-free, organisers are expected to reveal the newer, safer finish ready for Wednesday, 15th March.
