Costa makes a statement with Trofeo Calvià victory - "I haven't forgotten how to win yet"

Rui Costa's debut for Intermarché-Circus-Wanty was marked with a victory as he came out on top in Trofeo Calvià.

"A new team, a new shirt and a win on the first day of the new season!" shared Costa after the race. His victory in Trofeo Calvià marked his first win since 2020, when he took the top spot in a stage of the Saudi Tour. "My first international win in three years makes me SO happy. I couldn't have wished for anything more for my debut with Intermarché-Circus-Wanty.”

He recounted the climactic moments of the competition. "In the final I trusted my instincts. In the end, I won the race. I only thought about the win, even though the chasers came very close in the final kilometre. I stayed calm and never looked back."

With a solid beginning to the season, he is excited for the new challenges ahead. "It gives morale to show that I haven't forgotten how to win yet. No doubt the magic comes from my new team, with a fantastic group of teammates and a great staff. This evening we will celebrate this moment that is important to me,” concluded Costa.
