Magnus Sheffield continued the impressive start he has had to 2023 with a brilliant showing on the opening time-trial at
Tirreno-Adriatico, finishing third.
“There were some mixed conditions during the time trial. We had some rain and even some hail, but hopefully it will be a bit better for the rest of the week,” said Sheffield who's teammate Filippo Ganna was the winner of the stage. “My priority here is to support my teammates. But if the opportunity arises, I will definitely go for a stage. I think I have the right form.”
Casting an eye further down the season, Sheffield believes the progression he has already shown this year can be the catalyst for something big on the horizon. "I'm still pretty young so I've yet to learn how such competitions unfold. But I think I can take confidence from that."
“Last year I already achieved a victory (in the Brabantse Pijl, ed.), which has already taken some pressure off," he continues. "I think I can win a big classic. That is what I want to go for.”
