Less than two months before the Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2023, Christian Prudhomme, the director of the Grande Boucle, attended the presentation of the Tour de l'Avenir and the Tour de l'Avenir Women.
"We had absolutely wonderful races and Monuments in particular, with big winners. What should be noted above all is that once again, the champions of the month of July are there in March as well as in the October, for Milan-San Remo, for Liège-Bastogne-Liège, for the Il Lombardia... and I hope that in the future, they will also be there for Paris-Roubaix," Christian Prudhomme can't hide his excitement in an interview for Cyclism'Actu.
"As for the Tour de France? We are ready for everything that may happen. The teams keep working hard towards their goals. We are going to have absolutely magnificent start in the Basque Country, with a first stage around Bilbao. There is a fervor of the Basque public for cycling and also a great pride in hosting the Tour de France," he concludes.
The opening two days of the race feature hilly profiles where the GC riders and classics specialists are expected to thrive, with the initial battle for the yellow jersey being quite different than the regular Tour format.
