Bronze medal for Connor Swift at Gravel World Championships: "It’s nice to mix up the disciplines"

Connor Swift is a strong rouleur and his abilities were put on display yesterday at the Gravel World Championships. The Briton has ridden to a podium spot and was happy with his season finale form.

“I thought I was on a good day but it was full gas when the three of us got away. Then they dropped me far out and so I went as deep as I could to get a medal. I’m nailed but I’m happy with third," Connor Swift told Cyclingnews in Veneto. "It was a selective race early on, due to the single track parts and the high speeds. It was a super tough day. When I was dropped I could push a high constant power but never more than 500 watts to hold them on the climbs.”

Swift made the winning selection together with Matej Mohoric and Florian Vermeersch, the strongest out of a very good field that slowly suffered from the attrition of the race. He was fully in the fight for the win, but the final 25 kilometers proved too much. He was dropped from the group, and then as Mohoric soared to victory, the INEOS Grenadiers rider maintained his pace to remain third on the road.

Swift arrived home over 3 minutes down on the Slovenian but he earned a trip to the podium. “It’s nice to mix up the disciplines. It’s good for our sponsors and the sport," he concludes. "Gravel is developing quickly and it’s good fun. I want to be a diverse kind of rider, someone who can do well on the road, gravel and anything in between.”
