Ben Healy finished a close second on stage 14 of the
Giro d'Italia after being passed in the final sprint by his breakaway companion
Brandon McNulty. The Irishman tried to attack on the last two climbs of the day, but he believes that he made a tactical error that left him with no options at the end:
"It hasn't been bad, I had it for a moment, but I made a mistake waiting for Einer Rubio, I thought he was going to bring me back to the lead. That made me have to make a great effort to go back to McNulty and Frigo and I tried another time, but I couldn't. I couldn't let him down on the last climb either, he was very strong today."
Of course, Healy is very happy with the stage that the men from the breakaway have carried out, he believes that the route was perfect and that the spectators surely enjoyed it. "It has been a very nice stage, also for the people, we have played it at the end so it has been fun."
A silver lining for Healy is that he is now very much in contention for the King of the Mountains after taking maximum points on three of the days four climbs.
