Bas Tietema is one of the most popular cyclists YouTubers currently, the 27 years old Dutchmen, has more than 152 thousand subscribers on his Tour de Tietema YouTube channel.
Besides being an YouTuber, Tietema is also a professional cyclist that raced last season with the Belgian Pro Conti team Bingoal Puawels Sauces WB. The Dutchman left the Belgian team to found this season a new team that bears his YouTube channel initials and counts with the partnership of popular bets' platform Unibet that will race in the Continental division.
This didn't go well to his former team main sponsor Bingoal who is also a betting company. They accused Tietema of committing a breach of contract by joining forces with a new lender. Bingoal wants to continue the cooperation with Tietema as a main sponsor with the rider and his films, and if not the firm wants hefty damages. And now things are imminent to go to court.
"Bingoal regrets that it has had to come to this. We tried to come to an agreement among ourselves, but we did not succeed. That leaves us with only this path. These are revenues that my client has lost or will lose if the cooperation is not continued. A deal is a deal, that's very simple for us.", stated Bingoal lawyer Mr Etiënne van Namen
Bas Tietema and his team regret this situation and at same time are not much worried about it, referring to this as a difference of opinions. “It's a shame this has to be settled in public.We have a difference of opinion with our previous sponsor. We think we acted nicely and have prepared well for the summary proceedings. Furthermore, we are going there in good spirits. But we mainly want to focus on the training camp in Spain, where our riders are now. We do regret that this has to be settled in public.", said DT-Unibet spokesman and team manager Wim Geraats.
