Cofidis rider Bryan Coquard has won the fourth stage of Tour Down Under. He beat Alberto Bettiol to secure the victory. Jay Vine remains the overall leader.

For the first 30 kilometres of the race, Peloton remained together before the first breakaway occurred. Jonas Rutsch and Daryl Impey established a lead of 1 minute and 27 seconds, which subsequently grew to over 4 minutes.

It was yet another day filled with crashes, Tai Jones crashed hard amongst many other members of the peloton. It wasn't long before Magnus Sheffield, Ben O'Connor, Michael Matthews, Jay Vine, and others caught up with the breakaway duo.
