Annemiek van Vleuten raises €17,000 for Amy Pieters

World Champion Annemiek van Vleuten has auctioned some of her old kit and raised €17,000 for charity. Half of the money raised will be used to help Amy Pieters.

This is her third time doing such auctions for charity. The first two auctions fetched €10,000 and €8,500 respectively. "This is super cool. I've done this here before, but this is definitely the biggest turnout ever," Van Vleuten said. She auctioned her Movistar team jerseys, leader's jerseys from the the Tour de France Femmes, the UCI WorldTour series along with shoes, helmets, and other accessories.

The proceeds from the auction will be divided equally between Amy Pieters Foundation and Bikes4Masa. It is a charity in Kenya that helps supply bikes to the Masai population. "They now sometimes have to walk 20 kilometers to school. We try to buy bicycles for them so that they do go to school. It's very nice that everyone is so generous. This makes me really happy," concluded the World champion.
