Although he retired as a professional cyclist last year, Alejandro Valverde remains deeply involved in the activities of his former team.
While he was observed in the vehicle of race director Chente García Acosta during the Clásica Jaén Paraíso Interior 2023, he does not currently see himself pursuing a prominent position. “I'm still training and I'm in good shape, but now it's nice to get on the bus and in the flagship and be with the riders,” he told Eurosport.
He wants to see “things differently” and that he is currently fine with the fact that he has “retired from competition.” He further added, “Yesterday I went out on the bike with the guys, I felt something different, but I enjoyed it the most.”
While it may be on his agenda down the line, for now, he wishes to revel in a relaxed schedule. "At the moment I'm not considering it, but we'll see as we go. I just got off the bike, I want to enjoy cycling in another way. If you are a DS you still enjoy cycling, but otherwise the stress of racing and travelling is the same as when you are a rider. At the moment I don't think about doing that,” Valverde concluded.
