Staff is key in cycling and a few people stand out. Dan Bigham is particularly known for his work in the aerodynamics field and being a key part of INEOS Grenadiers' development over the past few years. However, the two parted ways last month and with immediate effect Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe have signed the Briton in order to boost their own ranks.

After confirming his departure from the team, Bigham was open on how the British team were leaving important matters untouched. “I feel that a lot of performance we’re leaving on the table and that frustrates me because it’s clear as day we should be doing things a lot better," he said only a month ago. "Let’s be honest, Ineos are not where they want to be, not where they need to be and the gap is not small.”

Bigham is a pro rider himself, having just competed in the Olympic Games for example, but his work is most notable behind the scenes. INEOS currently have Filippo Ganna and Joshua Tarling in their ranks who benefited from Bigham's presence, but it will now be the German team who can benefit from this talent. Both Bigham and colleague Jonny Wale have been signed by BORA. "With Dan and Jonny, we have absolute experts in the combination of cycling and engineering know-how," team manager Rolf Aldag assured in a press release.

"At Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, our new engineering unit meet the top know-how of our partners like Specialized on the one hand and the innovative technology entities of Red Bull on the other. This combination is unique in cycling and promises enormous potential." Bigham himself now moves on to another part of his career, commenting on the transfer:

“For the past decade, I have balanced the life of an elite athlete with my passion for advancing the sport of cycling through engineering. Having achieved nearly everything I dreamed of on the bike, I am now ready to fully dedicate myself to supporting the next generation of winners. The opportunity ahead of me at Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe is immense. No other team can match this level of combined knowledge, capability, and expertise across its network, and I am eager to leverage it to the fullest".

Today we witnessed Ineos at there very worst. Clueless with a very strong team.

He was a great addition to Ineos but they can't keep quality staff. They need to find a real GC rider, someone young to develop and I'm not talking about Pidcock, this should be the first goal. But having a guy like Dan to help build a young rider is important.

Don't know a thing about Dan Bigham, but what I do know is that TT peformance is the least of Ineos's problems right now. The whole program is floundering. They have no clear indentity, their leadership looks lost, and one good rider after another fails to produce the results they hoped for. When I came on board as a cycling fan in 2019, they were still the juggernaut of the peloton. They have declined every year since then, and are now just a mid-field team with a huge budget.

Well I like Dan but he didn't actually help Pidcock, Rodriguez or Bernal with their TT performance. For a team that likes(to try) to fight for GC it's those riders who should be priority yet nothing doing.
