Indurain pensando "porque me toca este hippie pijo"
The Tita Desert 2023 has had, as always, a stellar participation and two of the best Spanish cyclists in history, Miguel Induráin and Abaham Olano, took part in the Master 50 category. After the race, in a joking tone, he said that they had suffered a lot in the desert because their physique is not what it used to be:
"I see it well. Miguel asked me and I told him that it's hard, but that he had to try it. Now he knows it in his body. We have suffered in the dunes. We are one of those who are said to have a 'fat ass' and that weighs on the sand".
Induráin, for his part, spoke of the great experience he had on the road and explained that both Olano and Triki Beltrán, the mythical climber from Jaén, rode at a different pace:
"I see them at dinner because they are going strong and when they go out they raise a lot of dust. It's a pleasure to be with them remembering kilometers of professional. It's been a nice experience. Abraham was right that it's different from everything else. You suffer, it's hard, the weather and the route... there are a lot of rocks, I thought I was at home instead of in Morocco".
The five-time winner of the Tour de France explained that his experience in the African race had been more than positive despite the difficulties and hardships due to the hardness and heat:
"This race has huge deserts where there was no one for miles. It has nothing to do with strategy, cycling.... I had a good time, but here you have to suffer and should come prepared, because they are long days, very hot, sometimes extreme. Here I have experienced an atmosphere of companionship. If you have a problem in the race, they stop and help you or you help someone. Nobody stays here in the middle of the desert. I have spent 6 great days here".
