Diego Ulissi has rolled back the years to take a stunning solo win at
Giro dell'Appennino 2025. In the process, the
XDS Astana Team star has ensured he continues an incredible run of 16 straight seasons in which he has taken a victory.
Heading into the final 50km of the day, five riders were out ahead of the peloton, including British pair Ben Granger and Matthew Kingston of the Mg.K Vis Costruzioni e Ambiente team. Ahead of the final climb of the day though, all of the break had been swallowed up by the peloton.
The next big attack came from Diego Ulissi, with the Astana star attacking hard on the Madonna Della Guardia. As the experienced Italian entered the final 10km with a 57 second lead over nearest challengers
Louis Barré and
Matteo Fabbro, it seemed Ulissi had timed his move to perfection too.
And so it proved too, as Ulissi avoided any disaster in the run in to secured the 49th pro win of his career and more key UCI points for Astana in their battle against relegation.
