There was no doubt during yesterday's Paris-Roubaix that the riders were heading towards one of it's fastest editions. However it was the absolute fastest since it's creation, as the riders beat the record set in 2022. Mathieu van der Poel rode to victory with an average speed of 46.841Km/h.
This was due to the incredibly high pace through the opening hours of the race, with the riders reaching the first sector with an average of over 50Km/h due to the dozens of breakaway attempts, fight for positioning and slight tailwind. As the race fully opened with over 100 kilometers to go the speed remained an all-time high.
The Dutchman's record was over 1Km/h faster than what Dylan van Baarle achieved last year. On paper several riders have beaten that record. 45.792Km/h was the previous record according to ProCyclingStats, but the riders will need to put in epic efforts if the new record is to be beaten anytime soon.
