With appearances as a TV pundit and on various talk shows, Jan Ullrich has been increasingly in the spotlight again in recent months. The 50-year-old has repeatedly spoken about his goal of giving something back to cycling. In order to put this plan into practice, the 1997 Tour de France winner has now auctioned off one of his most legendary bikes.
As as reported a few weeks ago, Ullrich's original bike from the 1998 Tour de France was auctioned off on the second-hand platform Buycycle during this year's Tour. Unsurprisingly, the Pinarello racing bike in the legendary Telekom look quickly aroused the interest of many cycling fans. "This bike holds a lot of memories of my toughest training sessions and biggest races. But the real victory is to use this moment to give something back to the sport I love and help inspire the next generation of cyclists," Ullrich told Buycycle. in an official press release.
The auction of the iconic Pinarello bike generated total proceeds of €20,000. The proceeds will benefit the youth cycling organizations Bikeparcour Bad Dürrheim and RV Merdingen. "It was heartwarming to see the cycling community come together to support our future champions," said Ullrich.
