Wout van Aert's winter begins to take shape. The Belgian has spent the last few days in Colombia together with Rigoberto Urán, but his next competitive outings, in cyclocross, are being scheduled.
Like Mathieu van der Poel, the Jumbo-Visma rider is only set to start his off-road stint in late December. Both riders had a very long and exhausting 2023 season and both are taking significant time off the bike following the road season. None are looking to prolong the season as much as they have done in the past, but instead to race with a very specific goal in mind which are the Tabor World Championships.
In the run-up to them, both will race a packed Christmas block and then face each other likely still before travelling to the Czech Republic. Van Aert's first race should be the Exact Cross Mol on the 22nd on December followed by the Antwerp World Cup. He shouldn't race the Gavere and Hulst World Cups, instead focusing on other races.
He will be present in the Superprestige Diegem, Exact Cross Loenhout on the 28th and 29th of December, and shortly after the GP Sven Nys in Baal on the first day of 2024. From there onwards it remains a mystery which calendar he will follow A few rumours suggest he may race the Benidorm World Cup as he did last year, but confirmations are to emerge in the upcoming weeks.
