Alberto Contador's EOLO - Kometa could sign Miguel Ángel López if Colombian is cleared from drug possession charges

Miguel Ángel López has had a very rocky year, having been fired from Astana Qazaqstan Team and having his career turned upside down. He is currently suspended by the UCI as a preventive measure, but if he is cleared he could join EOLO - Kometa.

This is reported by Antena 2, who claim that López is in contact with the Italian team and that there close ties already. However this transfer cannot happen yet as López is suspended on the charges of possible prohibited substances possession before the 2023 Giro d'Italia.

As part of Operation Ilex, López is a suspect of drug trafficking, and is said to have been in the possession of Menotropin ahead of the Giro. It has been rumoured in the past that he abandoned the race due to a reaction to the substance.

He signed with Team Medellín-EPM and used the lower quality pelotons to win a huge amount of races throughout south and central America, ending up with 21 pro wins until July, when he was suspended by the UCI. The Colombian team did not break his contract, however did not renew it either and he is currently free for 2024. His future will heavily depend on the UCI's process and speed now.
