In December, Laurens Sweeck can already blow out 30 candles. December is not only an important month for the Belgian for that reason, as he wants to be in top form again at the start of several crosses.
The cyclocross winter of 2022-2023 was perhaps Sweeck's best cross season ever, winning eight races along some other decent results. In addition, Sweeck triumphed in the overall standings or the World Cup. "I never dared to dream of something like that," says Sweeck. "I would immediately sign for a similar season."

"I rode almost only good crosses and hardly had any bad days," he reflects again. "In addition, last year I found a good balance in terms of training, competing and the fatherly role that I fulfill at home. I have to say that I don't know what exactly the success factor was. But the team immediately had the utmost confidence in me and that created a click. Maybe that's why I managed to get the good results," he refers to his switch from Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal to Crelan-Fristads.
Sweeck kicked off his winter season at Beringen's Exact Cross on October 8. "The World Cup is priority number one for me again. I still have to decide which of the other two classifications I will focus on," he refers to the Superprestige and the X2O Trophy. "We are still fine-tuning it a bit, but I am leaning towards starting mainly in the Superprestige motos."
