Former junior world champion Jens Dekker wins his first cyclocross after comeback

Jens Dekker has won the Ciclocross Internacional Lago De As Pontes in Spain. For the 2016 junior world champion, who returned to cross country this year, it was his first victory since his comeback. Laura Verdonschot won the women's race.

In the final, Dekker and Orts took the lead together. Behind them was a group of three, consisting of Thijs Aerts, Kevin Suárez and Miguel Rodríguez. After an attack in the penultimate lap, Orts seemed to be on his way to victory, but Dekker was able to crawl back and subsequently leave the Spaniard behind.

The Dutchman then crossed the line first. Orts finished second eleven seconds later, Thijs Aerts followed just under half a minute after Dekker in third.

Laura Verdonschot soloed to victory in the women's race. The Belgian from De Ceuster-Bonache held off home rider Sofía Rodríguez and Lucía González. For Verdonschot it was her fourth victory in the early cyclo-cross season. She achieved all these in Spain, where she has not yet been defeated.
