Shirin van Anrooij was, as was Thibau Nys in the men's race, the big favourite for the under-23 event. The Baloise - Trek Lions rider stormed to a comfortable win in Hoogerheide proving her decision to race in this category was the right one.
The race had a conservative start with some of the favourites settling in the wheel, but on lap 2 the race changed as van Anrooij took to the front and isolated herself. Little could be done as the competition could not match the Dutch rider, who rode to victory in strong fashion. Zoe Bäckstedt was the only rider to get close to van Anrooi, whilst Kristyna Zemanová closed the podium.
