Lars van der Haar started with a nice lead. Mathieu van der Poel, Eli Iserbyt and Wout van Aert joined him at the front. Van der Poel was aggressive, and van Aert tagged along with him. Only Jens Adams was able to stick with the duo.
However, even Adams failed to keep with the duo and dropped behind in the third lap. Iserbyt and van der Haar were almost thirty seconds behind the duo. There was a problem with the saddle for Adams, resulting in further deterioration of his performance.
The last lap was about to begin, and no one seemed to be giving up. Van Aert encountered a flat tire at the last moment. Mathieu van der Poel secured the victory. Wout van Aert took the silver. Eli Iserbyt finished third.
