In the
Superprestige Boom,
Denise Betsema finished second behind
Aniek van Alphen. Although she competed fiercely with the Dutchwoman, she could only finish with silver.
She may have not won the race but her overall ranking has jumped to top position. "I am very disappointed, but I am very happy that I am now in the lead in the standings," she said in post race interview.
She suffered a tyre puncture which forced her to slow down, "I had to ride on a soft tube for a bit, that was really bummer," said Betsema. Still she managed to catch van Alphen in the final lap, "There you had that sandpit. Whoever would ride in there first would probably win. I knew that. I gave it my all, but because I can't jump the bars, you lose it. It's super bummer I couldn't finish," described Betsema.
She made a small mistake and started the sprint a bit late. "I actually had in my head that the finish line would be a bit further. I was a bit mistaken about that, anyway. After the turn, the line was there very quickly. I just came really short, and I think we still have a very nice winner. But I would still have preferred to be there myself," concluded Betsema.
