Annemarie Worst completes podium in Herentals: "Van Empel and Brand went a bit too fast for me"

Annemarie Worst was on the podium of the X2O Trophy Herentals on Saturday. She came third behind Fem van Empel and Lucinda Brand, who fought a fascinating duel for victory.

"A podium finish is always good," she said in a quick interview afterwards. "But it was a tough day, especially because of the climb. The rest of the lap wasn't too bad, but you had to climb that climb again and again," Worst laughed.

Putting up a fight against Van Empel and Brand wasn't really an option for Worst, she confides. "They went a bit too fast. I tried to stay with them, but it lasted two laps - then they were gone. That's just how it is."

"At first I was able to join in, but at a certain point they were gone. They fell silent for a moment, because they looked at each other for a moment. I tried to catch back, but then they accelerated again. That's a bit difficult for me. But it was a lap where you could ride alone."
