Wout van Aert trains outside for first time in three weeks after horror crash

For the first time since his Spring ending crash at Dwars Door Vlaanderen, Wout van Aert has been able to ride his bike outside, as seen by a post to his official Strava account.

Breaking his collarbone, sternum and a number of ribs in the disastrous crash that not only ruined all the hard work he'd put in ready for the Spring Classics but also denied the Belgian superstar his expected debut appearance at the upcoming Giro d'Italia.

Now though, in the best sign yet for his recovery, van Aert has posted a 30km training ride to his Strava, completed in over an hour around the area local to his home. Van Aert also showed off a new, Cervelo bike that he was using but couldn't help himself from posting an apology note alongside the upload. "Sorry to all the colleagues I've ever given shit to because they have spacers under their stem," he writes.

Although, as mentioned, the Spring Classics and the Giro d'Italia are no longer on the cards for van Aert, that's not to say he is without goal now this season. Later this summer, both the Olympic Games and the World Championships are targets the Belgian can keenly work towards, starting with this first ride back outside.
