The men's edition of Tre Valli Varesine 2024 was not raced to a conclusion earlier this Tuesday afternoon in Lombardy as torrential rain made things just simply too unsafe for the riders on the road.
"At the neutralised start there were already 7 punctures and a couple of broken wheels. We tried to race, but in the descent on the last lap we did I was in second position behind Alessandro Covi, but we couldn't see where we were going," world champion Tadej Pogacar explained of the situation afterwards to Cycling Pro Net. "Everybody wanted to stop. It was just a matter of question in which lap someone would crash. Those are the worst crashes when you lose the handlebars. I know a lot of friends from the peloton who had concussions this year. It's something we need to be more careful of in the peloton."
As seen in another video posted by Cycling Pro Net, the riders - led by Pogacar - can be viewed parked across the road on the start/finish line, protesting about any further continuation of the action. As we all know by now, eventually their protest were successful as the race was cancelled but you can view the fascinating scenes for yourself down below!
