The Criterium du Dauphiné is definitely being an unusual race. Only minutes after two of the breakaway riders crashed on a descent during stage 6, the rest of the breakaway has taken a wrong turn after the race organizers ahead were oblivious to the correct direction.
The incident occurred with 30 kilometers to go. The breakaway of five riders, including stage 2 and former race leader Magnus Cort Nielsen, followed the race vehicles who took a wrong turn. In footage shown on the TV broadcast, it is actually possible to see fans reacting to the vehicles' mistake, and frantically pointing towards the left corner - which is properly signaled by arrows.
The riders seemed to have noticed the mistake, but nevertheless lost around a minute as they had to eventually turn around and return to the original route of the race. You can watch the video below:
